Hi, my name is Kamyrra Floyd, and I gave my child up for an open adoption. This is my story.
I go to Abraham Lincoln High School and I'm a senior. I play basketball and I cheerlead. On December 28, 2009, I went to the hospital and found out I was pregnant. They told me that I was already six months pregnant. I couldn't believe it! So many thoughts went through my mind: What do I do? I can't take care of a child. I'm still a child myself. My baby's father said that he didn't want anything to do with me, so I felt like I was stuck. I had no one to go to except my family that lives with me. So that's when I thought about adoption.
I knew in my heart that I wanted my child to have the best childhood she can, and I knew I couldn't give it to her. That's when I found American Adoptions! I spoke with Lindsay, my adoption counselor, and she helped me even though I was almost near my due date. Luckily, I found Mike and Laurie, the best two parents a kid could ever have. I knew in my heart that they were the ones for me.
I had my daughter on April 15 at 8:23 p.m. Mike and Laurie were in the hospital helping me get through everything. They took her home to Texas on April 25, 2010. And that was my adoption story.
