What to Know about Infants Available for Adoption

Comparing Different Types of Infant Adoption

If you’re looking for infants available for adoption, then you’re about to begin a life-changing journey and likely have many questions. Don’t worry; we’re here to answer them.

You can always speak to one of our adoption specialists at 1-800-ADOPTION.

As a national, full-service infant adoption agency, we’ve made it our goal to help you understand infant adoption. This guide will explain which type of adoption is best when you’re trying to find infants for adoption.

What Is Infant Adoption?

Infant adoption (or domestic infant adoption) is the voluntary, permanent placement of a baby for adoption by their birth parents. The birth parents will then choose an adoptive family to place their child with. You can pursue this type of adoption with an agency or independently.

When you’re looking to adopt an infant, your adoption professional will coordinate the process. They’ll provide the necessary support and guidance throughout your adoption journey. With over 30 years of experience completing infant adoptions, we know just what it takes to provide you with the best adoption opportunity for your needs.

Some of the benefits of working with American Adoptions include:

  • Financial protection to give you another chance at pursuing adoption in case of a disruption

  • Shorter average adoption wait times due to our widespread advertising and marketing efforts.

  • Video profile services to increase your chances of finding an adoption opportunity

  • In-house home study services to help you in the states we’re licensed in

How Does Infant Adoption Compare to Other Types of Adoption?

When you’re trying to find infants for adoption, there are several other types of adoption you can pursue. This is often one of the first decisions you’ll make when you’re considering infant adoption. Foster care adoption is another type of adoption that involves adopting a child whose biological parents’ rights have been terminated by the court.

The child can then be adopted by their foster parents or another adoptive family. Many families choose foster care adoption, but if you’re looking for infants waiting for adoption, domestic adoption might be the better choice for you. Most children who are in foster care are older, and, while it may be beautiful experience, adopting an older child can come with unique challenges.

There’s also international adoption to consider when you’re looking for infants available for adoption. International adoption consists of adopting a child from another country through a Hague-accredited adoption agency. This type of adoption is less common because of how complex and expensive it can be.

Both types of adoption can be a great way for you to start your family, but it all depends on your preferences. If you’re looking to adopt an infant, then it would be best to pursue domestic infant adoption.

How Can I Find Infants Available for Adoption?

Because every family is different, every adoption journey is different. With that being said, there are some general steps that every family has to take.

When you’re looking for adoptable infants, you don’t have to do it alone. An adoption agency can help you find the right adoption opportunity. Although there are several different types of agencies that can help, American Adoptions specializes in infant adoption.

We are a fully licensed national adoption agency, so we can complete your domestic infant adoption from start to finish. We’ve helped thousands of families come together to build their families, and we can help you, too. As a national adoption agency, we search nationwide to find the best adoption opportunity for you. Because of this, we offer families shorter wait times then other adoption agencies.

If you’re looking at infants for adoption, then American Adoptions will help you create a family profile that we’ll show to birth parents throughout the U.S. Because of our extensive advertising efforts, you’ll have the best shot at finding an adoption opportunity with our agency.

Why Do Parents Choose Infant Adoption?

Every family has their own reasons why they want to adopt an infant. It depends on your situation and what you picture your family looking like. Some reasons families choose infant adoption are:

  • You want to have a baby: Many hopeful adoptive families dream of the special moments they’ll share with their baby. From their first words to their first steps, these milestones are often a big reason to pursue infant adoption.

  • Access to important medical information: Because your adoption agency will also be working with the prospective birth mother, you’ll have a greater chance at having access to vital medical information about your child. This type of medical history can be important later in life.

  • The chance to pursue an open adoption: Most infant adoptions today are at least semi-open. There are many benefits that come from having an open adoption relationship with the birth parents. These benefits will help your child in the long run when they start forming an identity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to retain our own attorney?

No, American Adoptions has established relationships with some of the best adoption attorneys in the nation. Because adoption laws vary from state to state and between counties, it is important to utilize the services of an adoption attorney who specializes in the state where the adoption will finalize, which is unknown until you match with an expectant mother. You have the right to retain your own attorney, but doing so may be an additional, unnecessary expense.

Can we choose the gender of our baby?

American Adoptions does not allow gender specificity in adoption. Any family who wishes to be gender-specific in their adoption should contact us at 1-800-ADOPTION and ask about the possibility of an exception waiver before taking any other steps toward adoption with our agency. Any families who do receive an exception to be gender-specific may also incur an additional fee, which helps cover the additional advertising costs of such a request.

Please note that gender specificity will likely increase your wait time significantly.
