This Saturday is National Adoption Day, a day when those who are touched by adoption will be celebrating adoption in their lives! For many families, National Adoption Day is also the day that they officially became a family, and it’s so it’s an especially happy and festive time for them.
You can celebrate National Adoption Day too! Here are some ideas:
- Check out NationalAdoptionDay.org’s list of events to find an event near you.
- Plan a get-together with other adoptive families in your community, church, etc.
- Host a potluck dinner with your friends to celebrate your child’s adoption. (You can even reach out to friends who have been struggling with infertility to talk to them about your experiences.)
- Join a play or parent group with other adoptive families. Find parent groups or learn how to start your own at NACAC.org.
Adoption Play Groups: In our most recent newsletter, we mentioned that adoptive mom Tracy is starting an adoption play group in the Des Moines area. Tracy was inspired by adoptive mom Rachel, who lives in Kansas City and organizes her own adoption play group. She also hosts an adoptive family Facebook page for couples across the country. [also some photos Rachel told me I could use]
If you’re interested in learning more about either of these play groups or the Facebook page, email us at editors@americanadoptions.com.
And we hope you have a happy National Adoption Day this weekend!
