The Beauty of Bonding
Today, more adoptive families and birth parents participate in open adoptions than ever before.
However, while researching adoption and adoption professionals, many adoptive families don’t fully understand the reasons why agencies like American Adoptions may encourage bonding with the birth parents.
Bob and Nikki’s adoption story is representative of the benefits that bonding with the birth parents can have on everyone involved in the adoption. In some cases, it can even be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful adoption.

Bob and Nikki entered the world of adoption with one thing at the front of their minds – they wanted to meet the birth parents, and they wanted to work with an adoption agency that allowed this meeting to happen. Like the birth parents’ decision to adopt, Bob and Nikki’s reasons for wanting to meet them were completely selfless.
“Meeting the birth parents was important to us because we not only wanted to get to know them personally and show them how much we respected their decision, but we wanted to be able to tell our child all about them one day,” Bob said.
